An art of earth and fire from one of Japan’s oldest and most revered kiln traditions.
This work originates from Bizen-yaki, one of the “Six Ancient Kilns of Japan,” celebrated for expressing the raw, original beauty of clay.
Fired using the traditional unglazed (suyaki) method, the surface is shaped by days of wood-firing with red pine in an ancient kiln. The resulting reddish-brown tones, natural ash deposits, and fire markings (yōhen) emerge organically, giving each piece a distinct, unrepeatable character.
This is a complete tea set, thoughtfully designed for practical use on the tea table. The porous nature of Bizen ware is known to enhance the aroma and flavor of tea, complementing both Japanese green tea and Chinese tea harmoniously.
The set embodies Wabi-sabi aesthetics — the beauty of simplicity, imperfection, and the quiet calm born from natural materials.
Each piece is entirely handmade by the artist, and comes with an original kiribako wooden box (tomobako) bearing Kiyoe’s signature and seal, making it suitable for refined use in tea practice as well as high-level collecting.
