This work, known as “Dōshizuku” or “Gold Mountain – Silver Mountain (Kinzan Ginzan)”, is formed purely by fire and gravity, without carving or sculpting. Molten metal is allowed to drip and solidify naturally, making each piece entirely one of a kind.
Crafted from pure copper alloyed with gold and silver, the surface develops complex, landscape-like textures through the natural movement of metal during high-temperature firing. These organic forms reflect Japan’s advanced mastery of metallurgical control.
When illuminated, the surface reveals layered tones of copper, gold, and silver, creating depth and quiet brilliance that shifts with light and viewing angle.
In Japanese cultural symbolism, the form evokes a “golden mountain”, representing accumulated wealth, stability, and long-term prosperity. It is often regarded as a feng shui object believed to attract fortune and protect the household.
