A handcrafted Shino ware teacup set originating from Japan’s Momoyama period ceramic tradition, an art form with over 400 years of history. Shino ware is celebrated for its rustic texture, soft forms, and kiln-driven color transformations that embody the spirit of wabi-sabi aesthetics.
Fired in a traditional wood kiln, the warm golden-yellow glaze forms naturally as ash interacts with the glaze at high temperatures. Each cup develops unique tonal variations and surface character—no two cups are alike.
The cups retain clear hand-formed marks, offering a gentle, organic texture that feels comfortable in the hand. Shino ware has long been used in Japanese tea ceremonies, valued for its quiet presence and honest material expression.
This is a complete set of five cups, preserved together with an original signed wooden box, enhancing both its cultural and collectible value.
Produced between the 1980s and 1990s, the set is now 30–40 years old, in excellent condition, and exists as one intact vintage set, which is increasingly rare for wood-fired Shino ware.
